We are also honoured by the presence of Nananoom.  Indeed your presence have added colour to this programme.  I welcome you all.

Awulae Chairman Ladies and Gentlemen, Half-Assini Senior High School, Hasco as it is popularly called is one of the Ghana Education Trust (G.E.T) co-educational schools founded through the visionary lens of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory in 1960.  Exactly 50 years ago, a group of thirty-five (35) students and a pioneer teaching staff of four (4) began their secondary school education here under the headship of Mr. E.A Haizel of blessed memory.  The only courses offered were General Arts and Science.  Today the student population stands at one thousand and four hundred (1400) with a teaching staff of forty – seven (47).  Programmes/courses offered have also been diversified with the introduction of Secretarial Business, Business Accounting, Agricultural Science, Visual Arts, Home Economics and Information, Communication and Technology    ( I.C.T).

Awulae Chairman, we are celebrating this occasion not merely because we have existed for fifty (50) years but also because those years have been years of action, achievements (though modest) and most importantly years full of challenges.

Our theme for the celebration – Hasco; 50 Years of Quality Education And Beyond was carefully chosen because we are convinced that the world is no longer the vast stretch of land with its endless horizon.  It is now shrinking into small global village, courtesy technological advancement.  As an educational institution therefore we need to re-examine ourselves, re-direct our focus and be abreast with times so that we can meet the challenges of current global trends.  This celebration undoubtedly signifies a change in our attitude, commitment as well as revival and rejuvenation of our strength to forge ahead positively.

From, its humble beginning HASCO grew up to capture laurels in the field of sports and academics in the sixties (1960s) and early (1970s) and had offered an academic exposure to quite a number of people all over the country including our Guest Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Hassan Ghana’s Ambassador to Iran, Professor Kofi Daddieh, of Miami University (USA), Prof. John Blay, (UCC), Dr. Andrew Kenjah (USA), Dr. Paul Asmah, the first medical technologist to be trained for the Ministry of Health and Lt. Col. Albert Adu, the Commanding Officer of the fifth Battalion of Infantry (Ghana Army, Tamale), Mr. Dan Borsor, a businessman and Philanthropist and many others.  The school has produced Career Diplomats, Ministers of Religion, Traditional Rulers, Business men and women, Educationists, Engineers, Seasoned Military Officers, Medical Practitioners to mention a few.  Space and time will not allow me to list the names of all these people.

ACADEMICS
Through the untiring efforts of the Board of Governors, the P.T.A and the staff, the school has in recent years experienced steady growth, without relegating to background our commitment to promoting and maintaining high academic standard and discipline.  The school scored 97% passes in the 2009 WASSCE results.  Though it marked an improvement over previous years results, it is our a vowed aim to ensure a 100% pass with quality grades - as our school motto goes – “only the best is good for Africa”
Awulae Chairman, with the significant improvement in our infrastructure/facilities we are very optimistic of excellent academic performance in the coming years.  We wish to assure all gathered here and especially parents that we are poised for academic excellence in the years ahead.  The sky is our limit.

SPORTS

The school continues to dominate sporting activities in the Nzema Zone which include all Senior High Schools in the Evalue Gwira, Ellembelle and Jomoro Districts.  We wish to acknowledge the immerse support the school has been enjoying by way of provision of sporting equipments by the following personalities; Hon. Lee Ocran, Ghana’s Ambassador to South African, Mr. Dan Borsor, a Philanthropist/Businessman, Lt. Col. Albert Adu, and Mr. Edouard Taye, Dr. Andrew Kenjah (all of USA).
